GAINESVILLE ANIMAL HOSPITAL (EAST and WEST)

Our Services

General Services

  • PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

Both Gainesville Animal Hospitals are full service facilities to keep your pet healthy.  Our goal is to help maintain your pet’s health through proper nutrition, annual physical exams, vaccinations, and parasite control.  Should your pet become ill, the highly trained staff at Gainesville Animal Hospital can handle it with concern and professionalism.  Many routine problems can be treated on an outpatient basis.  More serious problems like emergencies or those requiring intensive care will need to be treated in hospital.

  • DIAGNOSTIC TESTING

Sometimes bloodwork is the only way our doctors can determine what is causing illness in our pets, but bloodwork can also help to prevent unforseen complications when going under anesthesia for surgeries or other medical procedures.

We use outside laboratories, and our own in-hospital lab, to perform a wide array of blood tests that can check thyroid levels (T4), make sure organ functions are working properly (liver, kidney), and detect  diabetes as well as numerous other diseases in a matter of hours. By running blood tests our doctors are able to provide your pet with the most beneficial  medical attention that we can offer not only in times of illness, but also as a preventative measure.

For dogs, a yearly heartworm test is recommended even if your dog has been on heartworm preventative faithfully every month.  For kittens or stray adult cats that are adopted, it is advised to have both the Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline AIDS Virus tests run prior to bringing your new pet home.  Both of these virus' are very contagious and have no known cure.

Also yearly fecal exams are highly recommended for dogs and cats to check for internal parasites like hookworms, whipworms, and coccidia.  If needed we are able to provide proper deworming to help your pet be healthy again.

  • RADIOLOGY

Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular(cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems.  Our hospital staff is fully trained to take accurate x-rays, which helps to lower the amount of stress that your pet must endure in times of illness or injury.

  • ULTRASOUND

This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available.

  • SURGERY

Some surgeries you plan for (preventative/wellness surgeries); however, most others are usually unexpected and urgent.  Our hospital and staff are well trained to handle medical emergencies, and we will care for your pet to the very best of our abilities.

The veterinarians at Gainesville Animal Hospital offer a wide variety of surgical expertise.  Surgical procedures commonly performed are spays, neuters and declaws (preventative/wellness surgeries).  We also perform laceration repair, fracture repair, cosmetic surgery, miscellaneous orthopedic surgeries, tumor removal, exploratory surgery, bladder surgery, and intestinal surgery.  This is just an overview and not an inclusive list of all types of surgeries performed.

As with humans there are guidelines that we follow before going into a surgery when at all possible.  So if you know in advance that your pet needs surgery please call us, and we will set up a surgery date and explain all necessary guidelines so your pet can have the safest surgery possible.

  • DENTALS

We not only do routine dental cleaning and polishing, but also gum surgery, tumor removal, and extractions.  Routine dental cleaning and polishing should be a regular part of any pet’s life.  As with our teeth, pet’s teeth need regular cleaning, too.

The only unique difference is that pets require a general anesthesia to do a thorough cleaning and polishing.  Though some owners are concerned about putting their pet under anesthesia, you can rest assured that the risks of anesthesia are very small compared to the benefits of a healthy mouth.  The majority of pets without regular oral care will develop periodontal disease, which is a painful infection of the gums that ultimately results in tooth loss.

We also carry dental products to help reduce bacteria and tarter build-up in between cleanings such as:  Maxiguard Oral Gel, C.E.T. Chews for dogs and cats, Eukanuba pet foods, and Hill's Prescription Diet T/D treats also for dogs and cats.  Our staff would be happy to give you a sample of T/D treats for your pet.  Just stop by and ask us about preventative dental care.

  • VACCINATIONS

Vaccinations are a necessary part of every pet’s life in order to keep them healthy.  Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvo-virus, Bordetella, Corona-virus and Rabies are all vaccines that dogs should be given as part of a normal health maintenance program.  For cats, Distemper, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Feline Leukemia Virus, Feline Infectious Peritonitis, and Rabies are all vaccines that would be recommended in a regular health maintenance program.  Most of these vaccines are necessary for boarding purposes as well in order to protect your pet when staying in a new environment.

  • WELLNESS CARE AND IMMUNIZATION

We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter package; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.

  • BATHING

Tired of getting wet?  Just don’t have the time to bathe your pet?  We can help!  Let us bathe your dog or cat for you and get them feeling and smelling clean.  We also offer dips for dogs if needed, however, there are many new flea treatments that are much more effective than dips.  If you are having trouble with fleas talk to one of our trained staff about the latest in flea control.  We can also trim your pets nails, clean their ears, and express their anal glands if needed.

  • BOARDING

We board dogs, cats, birds and other exotics of all sizes, and our boarding facilities are climate controlled for your pet’s comfort.  Dogs that are boarded with us are walked outside twice a day.  All cages are cleaned at least twice a day and more often if needed.

We provide all the necessities for you pet, but it is always nice to bring your pet's own food.  This will help to prevent an upset stomach due to a rapid switch in diet.  However, if you forget or would like us to, we will be happy to feed our in hospital premium diet while they are here.  Please feel free to bring your pet’s favorite toy or blanket to make his or her stay here more enjoyable. Also don't forget any special medication(s)!  For birds and other exotics it is recommended to bring their own food and cages.

Finally your pet must be up to date on certain vaccinations.  When you call to make your boarding reservations we can give you all the specifics.

  • PERMANANT I.D. FOR YOU PET

We can microchip or tattoo your pet as a way of permanently identifying your loved one.  The microchip procedure is very quick and implants a scanable microchip between your pet’s shoulder blades, which has a registered identification number for each individual pet.  It is a very accurate way of proving your pets identity should your pet get stolen or lost.

A tattoo uses special letters and numbers placed on the inside of the left rear leg.  It is a visible way of proving a pet’s identity without any special instruments.  Both microchips and tattoos are used to reunite a lost pet with their owner by a simple phone call.  Also  most local Animal Shelters and Veternarians can scan every pet for a microchip or check for a tattoo.

  • NUTRITIONAL DIETS

We offer three high quality diets:  Science Diet, Iams and Eukanuba.  Try your pet(s) on these diets and see the difference.  It is true, you are what you eat.  Most people are reluctant to feed a high quality food because they feel it will cost more.  It will cost more to purchase the same size bag of a high quality dog food, however, because of the smaller feeding volume needed to get the same level of nutrition, your feeding costs actually remain the same or may be even reduced.  Remember when switching foods, to always make the transition to the new food slowly over a period of five to seven days.

  • HOUSE CALLS

Sometimes it is more stressful on you and your pet(s) trying to get them in the car than actually seeing the veterinarian.  We also realize that your life is busy, and sometimes it is just not convienent to drag the whole family out to see the "pet doctor".  We have two answers for you.  House calls and pick-up and delivery services.

The convience of staying at home, and having your pet visited by our doctor in their own environment might just be worth giving us a call and scheduling a house call.  And if for any reason the services you needed we aren't able to do at home we will be happy to transport your pet for you to our full service hospital.

Yearly vaccinations, nail trims, checking the itchy skin, cleaning infected ears, bringing flea control and heartworm preventative.  We can do all these things and more at the convience of your home.

  • BEHAVIORAL COUNSELING & OBEDIENCE CLASSES

Some behavioral problems can require medical intervention.  However, most problems are best treated with a combined approach of medical treatment and obedience training.  A good experienced trainer can help with not only basic obedience, but also behavioral problems.  There are usually different levels offered such as puppy kindergarten, which starts around 3 months of age.  For more information on who we recommend please give us a call.

  • VETERINARY ORTHOPEDIC MANIPULATION

Veterinary Orthopedic Manupulation (VOM) is a healing technology that locates areas of your pets nervous system that has fallen out of communication.  The procedure re-establishes communication, which induces healing.
